Abstract

The free trade agreement between Israel and the United States is the very first of 20 FTAs, which have been signed by the U.S. since 1985. This paper shows the interdependency of security policy and economic considerations in the Israel-U.S. FTA. It discusses the initial aim and the resulting effects, in a neorealist context. It shows that the FTA with Israel, a key ally for the U.S., can be considered an instrument of U.S. security policy.
